A perfect spot to find your inner soul! Devi Bhadrakali blesses her devotees at the Kappil Bhagavathy Temple, a famous temple in Varkala. Located at Kappil, Thiruvananthapuram there are two temples, one for Lord Shiva and the other for the Devi Bhagavathy. The Meena Bharani festival is celebrated on a grand scale at the Bhadrakali Temple.  

The idol of Lord Shiva faces to the west in the ancient Kappil Lord Shiva temple which is believed to be about 2,000 years’ old. As per legend, a 5,000-year-old temple is believed to have been positioned in the same direction towards the west.  The ancient temple subsequently got submerged under the Arabian sea. That 5,000-year-old temple was said to have a ‘Swarna Kodi Maram’ or the Golden Flagstaff. The residents of the area believe that the temple has strong cosmic powers.
